Sharp Sand is a coarse sand with angular grains, as opposed to rounded grains. It is often used in construction and landscaping for various applications. Sharp Sand is typically composed of quartz or silica grains, which give it its coarse and gritty texture. The angular shape of the grains provides good stability and interlocking properties.
Sharp Sand is used in construction for tasks such as laying block paving, floor screeding, and creating a stable base for concrete. Its coarse texture makes it suitable for applications where good drainage and stability are essential.
Yes, Sharp Sand is commonly used in gardening and landscaping. It is often mixed with soil to improve drainage and aeration. Additionally, it can be used as a base for laying turf or artificial grass.
Sharp Sand should be laid at 50mm depth when used for block paving bedding. Typically, one of our Bulk Bags will cover 10m2 at 50mm depth. For larger areas you may wish to use our quantity calculator located at the top right hand side of this page under the grey "How Much Will I Need" tab. Sharp Sand should be spread with a shovel and compacted with a whacker plate or vibrating roller in layers. It is important the product is properly compacted to prevent settling later on. The depth of installation will depend on the project.
Sharp Sand is produced to comply with BS EN 12620.
